MA Illustration Update: I think I’m done…?

So, after two years and a surprise pandemic, I think I’ve actually come to the end of my MA in Illustration at the University of Portsmouth. I definitely haven’t been updating this blog as often as I should have, but I’ve been hard at work putting together The Mashu: An Observers Guidebook. A handy guide […]

An Update on A Question of Research

Well… Between my inability to keep a blog running, my battles with procrastination and executive dysfunction, and the breakdown of the entire world as we know it, this has been a tough one! So, what have I been up to for the last three months? I’ve read The Storm of Creativity by Kyna Leski, which […]

Inktober 2020: Part 1 (I hope….)

So, I struggled a bit with Inktober this year… Covid Brain has affected my creativity levels somewhat, and once you miss one day its very easy to miss another. But I have made it half-way! I’m mostly pleased with the illustrations I have done so far, and I do plan to keep going even though […]

Exciting post this morning!

It’s the first Correspondent’s Club zine from Penfriend, aka, Laura Kidd, featuring a guest appearance from the Mashu! In fact, Laura and her husband Tim loved the Mashu so much, that she commissioned me to make some for her. This particular group of Mashu are now happily living on their kitchen windowsill in Bristol.

Mashu-Making Masterclass

I got to run a mini Mashu-making workshop at uni this morning with the other University of Portsmouth MA Illustration students. I think it went well, and I had fun with their workshops and presentations too!

Research Reading

I have been doing a LOT of reading for my MA Question of Research project into subversion and humour, and tying into my main project proposal too… Chavazine by Gemma Jung, and The Chap Manifesto by Gustav Temple & Vic Darkwood – I enjoyed these, but felt like the Chap Manifesto was too long, so […]

A Question of Research…

I’ve been struggling with this for over a month, but today it finally clicked! One of the modules for MA Illustration is called A Question of Research, for which we picked one of five questions at random out of a Box of Mystery™. Our task is to keep a blog as we try to find […]

Inktober 2019 Week 5

And finished! I really enjoyed Inktober this year. It was (mostly) fun coming up with scenarios for the Mashu based on the prompt word list. I’ve had a few days break, but I think I’m going to try to find a way to keep this going. Maybe going back to previous years prompt lists.   […]

Inktober 2019 Week 4

Very close to the end! I did get a couple of days behind this week, but I got caught up and am back on track.
